The Community Assistance Network, Inc. (CAN)’s mission is to work in partnership with the community to develop, operate, and support programs that reduce vulnerability and promote personal growth, stability and self-sufficiency among low-income residents. We do this by providing shelters, eviction prevention, budgeting, after school and summer programming, weatherization and a food pantry.
Community Assistance Network, Inc. (CAN) operates three shelters. Homeless individuals seeking Emergency Shelter must call the Baltimore County Department of Social Services at 410-853-3000 (prompt #2 for Homeless Screening Unit/Adult Services) in order to be referred to an emergency shelter in Baltimore County.

With 80 years of passion and experience, we purchase new prescription eyeglasses for U.S. residents and distribute used glasses to the disadvantaged in developing countries.
The world’s online database of high quality used glasses that uses the power of the Internet to facilitate redistribution of quality, used eyeglasses to underserved communities worldwide. Our glasses are donated by members of our community. They are then cleaned, categorized, and loaded into our online database based on their prescription.
Operating through a network of community partners who identify children in need, provides free eye exams and glasses using Vision Service Plan (VSP) gift certificates. VSP gift certificate programs ensure that adults and children in need, including those affected by disaster, have free access to quality eye care and glasses through a local VSP provider. We work closely with community partners to help identify those most in need and offer multiple gift certificate programs.

Vision To Learn provides free eye exams and free eyeglasses to students in low-income communities. In May 2016, Vision To Learn established a permanent program to serve students throughout the Baltimore City Public School System.
VISION USA was established in 1991 to provide basic eye examinations to Americans in need, and is currently available in 39 states and the District of Columbia. If you need an eye exam and do not have insurance and cannot afford one, work with your social worker, case worker, charitable organization or agency to submit an application on your behalf for VISION USA services.
The Wilmer Eye Institute specializes in the diagnosis and management of complex medical and surgical eye disease. Our institute is the preeminent provider of routine eye care and refractive, optical, cosmetic, and eye trauma services for the Mid-Atlantic region, and is the only designated eye trauma center in Maryland.
