The Pediatric Emergency Department (PED) at University of Maryland Children’s Hospital offers expert evaluation and care for children and young adolescents suspected to have been sexually abused or assaulted. Their SAFE-style program provides trauma-informed medical and forensic assessments, working with physicians, nurses, social workers, child-life specialists and support staff to meet the needs of children and families. For all suspected abuse of children under age 13 in Baltimore City that occurred within the previous five days, they provide timely, comprehensive evaluation.
