Wide Angle Youth Media

Wide Angle Youth Media is a nonprofit organization based in Baltimore that empowers youth through media arts education. Since its inception in 2000, the organization has collaborated with and amplified the voices of over 8,000 young people across the city, providing them with the skills and confidence to navigate school, career, and life

Wide Angle Youth Media offers a range of programs designed to engage and develop youth through media arts:

  • Baltimore Speaks Out (BSO): An introductory video-making and youth development program for youth ages 10–15. BSO workshops are conducted each academic year at partner schools and locations, providing students with media literacy, team-building, public speaking, community service, and digital media skills.

  • High School Programs: After-school courses offering students ages 14–21 the opportunity for free introductory and advanced media training. Courses are offered in a range of concentrations, including video, photography, animation, and illustration.

  • MediaWorks Summer Program: A paid summer workforce development initiative for youth ages 14–21, providing media education experiences and college and career development programming in partnership with Baltimore City’s YouthWorks and Baltimore County’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP).

  • Community Voices: A program offering a wide range of fee-for-service workshops, trainings, and media-arts-centered professional development. These workshops are customizable to best suit the needs of students, topics, and budgets
