BARCS

BARCS is Baltimore City’s open-admission animal shelter — they accept any animal in need, regardless of age, health, history, or temperament. They operate adoption, foster, and medical-care programs (including spay/neuter, vaccinations, emergency care) and also run community-support services (low-cost clinics, pet-owner resources, lost & found, and help for families in crisis) to keep pets in homes when possible. BARCS also welcomes volunteers — including youth (with parental consent for younger teens) — to help with animal socialization, shelter care, community drives, and special events, making it a practical way for young people to engage in service and help animals.
